SEO or Search Engine Optimization is the effort to get your site to the top of the search engines, for your desired keywords, targeting your target market. There are three primary types of SEO that we target; On-Page SEO, Off-Page SEO & Local SEO.
A lot goes into getting your site to the top and keeping it at the top. This is where Walibu comes in. Our team of SEO experts will fight diligently to build your rank and keep it there. SEO is like a waterfall, it looks the same every time, but the reality is it's moving like crazy!
A great explanation of technical SEO would be a lot like applying for a job. Say the job is ranking #1 for your desired keyword and the employer is Google. Google will look at your resume, or your website and On-Page SEO (which we'll explain more below), and see how well presented it is, what your skills and services are, how often you update your resume and stay on top of your expertise and many other deciding factors.
If all pans out, google will then check your references, which would be the same as your Off-Page SEO (which we'll also explain more below); back links, mentions, citations and many other items. Depending on the outcome of these, you may or may not get that job. This job has an open hire and if your skills, presentations or references fall behind, or your competitor's have something you don't you'll be back in the application line.
On-Page SEO is everything within your website, the keywords, content, tags, hierarchical structure, sitemaps and more, and used to be the only SEO. Google looked heavily at your website for rank and getting to the top was relatively easy for a skilled SEO specialists. However, Google's number 1 priority is to deliver the most relevant and real content in your search results and when people were creating "fake" businesses, solely for the purpose of rank, they said "we need to fix this". So how would they fix this? Activity outside of the website or Off-Page SEO is how.
All of the activity related to your site but not on your site is considered Off-Page SEO. In the analogy SEO is like a job application, this is the reference check; who's talking about you and what are they saying. And just like a real-life reference check, a great one can help tremendously and a bad one can be detrimental.
What's a digital bad reference check mean? It means that if the shady, chop shop or used car dealer is vouching for you, it may hurt your chances of getting the job, but if the CEO of Google is vouching for you it may be just the thing that wins them over. So back-links are important and have a huge impact on your site's rank, but they need to be from the right source, or High Domain Authority Sites.
Your site's Domain Authority is much like its reputation score or credit check. Google uses this score, along with other variables to score your site's Off-Page activity. If we were to build 100 sites today and link them back to this site, all those sites being new, low to no traffic, weak content, no established Off-Page SEO, would have very low Domain Authority, and could penalize our rank because of it. Whereas, if Microsoft and Apple mentioned us, those would be great, being they have a very high Domain Authority.
So taking things a step further, Google also wants relevant local establishments to show up in the results. If you've Google'd something like "Pizza El Dorado Hills" (or insert city name) you've probably noticed the 3 listings that show up with a map and pin drop.
This is the foundation of Local SEO. Local SEO relies heavily on what's known as the NAP, Name, Address & Phone. These must be consistent across all platforms so that Google knows that's who you are, where you are and how to contact you. This leads to Google My Business or GMB.
GMB is your business listing within Google. Since Google cut its Google+ platform, they've put a lot of emphasis on their GMB listings and their accuracy of it.
GMB uses a postcard in most cases to verify your address, however, with the turn towards growing the value and placement of GMB listings they've cut certain aspects, personal mailbox companies such as The UPS store or other PMB companies do not qualify for a service at location business address.
GMB has also put a lot of weight on their rating and review system, which Reputation Management is also a VERY important part of your overall digital marketing plan. You can read more about Walibu's Reputation Management here.
